Language Planning in Capitals and Urban Environments: Practices and Challenges

The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) and the Governance Centre (GC) of the University of Ottawa, in partnership with the Commissioner of Official Languages and the City of Ottawa, and with the sponsorship of Canadian Heritage, are organising an International Symposium entitled, "Language Planning in Capitals and Urban Environments: Practices and Challenges".  The Symposium will be held in Ottawa on 24 - 26 March, 2010, and will include approximately 75 people.

The Symposium will bring together representatives of Canadian and European cities selected because of their bilingual situation. In addition the City of Ottawa which will also act as host city, we will invite representatives from Moncton, Brussels, Helsinki, Biel/Bienne and Barcelona.  For each city, one administrator and one university scholar will be invited as a speaker or panellist.
