January: New UNESCO report on linguistic and cultural diversity

Last autumn, UNESCO published a report entitled "Investing in Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue", which clearly reflects the organisation's growing interest in language-related and cultural matters. The report focuses on the challenges linked to cultural diversity and aims to analyse the changes currently taking place in societies, for the purposes of monitoring them and observing trends. The report is not intended to provide ready-made solutions, but rather seeks to underline the complexity of a cultural diversity.  The solution  cannot be addressed through political will alone; it also requires an exchange of best practices, greater international cooperation in decision-making and the involvement of all language and cultural communities in the process of developing an equitable society.
