June: NPLD hosts its annual General Assembly in Edinburgh

On 21 and 22 June, linguistic planners and civil servants working in the field of constitutional, regional and smaller-state languages from across Europe came together at the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity’s annual General Assembly in Edinburgh.  The two-day meeting brought together members, representing languages such as Occitan, Gaelic, Basque and Welsh, to discuss the NPLD’s strategies and future priorities.  A new Vice-Chair was also appointed, Araceli Díaz de Lezana, who represents the Basque Government at the NPLD.  The position will be held for two years, and she will be joining Deaglán O’Briain from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Ireland as a Vice-Chair.
