The European Commission has recently published the results of successful applicants to the Literary Translation strand of the Culture programme 2007-2013. The successful translation projects have been awarded a total grant of almost € 2 million.
Several translations involving minority, regional or smaller-states languages won prizes such as one project from Catalan into Slovene.
This strand aims to spread European literature among European citizens by supporting the translation and publication of European literature into the official languages of the EU countries participating in the programme, plus Latin and Greek.
In order to encourage the European added value and European integration, a special focus is agreed on:
a) the translation of high quality literature at European level for the broadest possible public; and
b) the translation of literature from those countries that have joined the EU since 2004.
Next call for proposal is expected by the end of the year. The deadline is usually 1 February.
