Short note on organisation background

 

CIEMEN was established in 1978 in Barcelona with a view to becoming a place open to all people, organizations and institutions interested in research, study and knowledge of ethnic and national minorities, minoritised languages, in Europe and in the rest of the world, as well as regional languages and immigration.

Over time, the Centre has also specialised in the research of all documents relating to individual and collective human rights, with a special emphasis on linguistic rights.  CIEMEN has been a member of the EBLUL since 1986 representing the Catalan language community within the Spanish State.

It undertakes in the documentation, promotion and research into minoritised languages, linguistic diversity, linguistic rights, ethnic minorities and stateless nations.
