What were your impressions of the language while growing up?

In my teen years, I was firmly committed to “catch up” with the Corsican language as I did not speak it when I was a child. I was really concerned about being detached from my people and its culture.

How important a role does the language play in your life now?

It is a major struggle which is at the very heart of my political commitment.

Do you get to use the language on a daily basis in the community / at work / home?

Yes, in the three domains but the Corsican language is used less and less, and this is very worrying. We spoke partially in Corsican yesterday at the Municipal Council meeting.

How healthy do you think the future of the minority language you speak is?

Objectively, we must be pessimistic as the French state keeps practising the politics of rejection vis-à-vis the Corsican language. But the willingness to save the language in Corsica has never been as strong as it is today. The political struggle will be key.

What do you think the language and the language community’s biggest needs are?

The need for language immersion, especially for young people, who are the ones with a poorer knowledge of the language, also passive knowledge, especially in urban areas.
We also need a bilingual education system with a complete immersion strategy in the Corsican language throughout compulsory education.

If you could have one wish for your language, what would it be?
Ch'ella campi par sempre !

The Corsican language shall last forever and never die

Where would you like to see the language in 10 years?

An immersion system aimed at ensuring a good knowledge of Corsican by young people and language training for adults aimed at transforming passive users into active ones, especially for those ages 20-40, the parents of the future generations.
Also promotion of the Corsican language among artists in all spheres who encourage us to love the language.
