January: European Commission launches public consultation on 2020 economic strategy
The European Commission (EC) has started its work on the post-Lisbon Strategy. On 24 November, it launched a public consultation on the future “EU 2020” Strategy which will determine the EU’s policies and investment priorities for the next decade, including for topics or funding programmes directly or indirectly linked to languages in Europe.
The consultation paper sets out three objectives on which interested parties are asked to comment: creating value through knowledge; empowering people in inclusive societies; and creating a competitive, connected and greener economy.
Interested parties are invited to submit their contribution by 15 January 2010. The EC will then make a detailed proposal to the 2010 Spring European Council that will adopt new guidelines replacing those in force under the Lisbon Strategy since 2005.
